Me thinks that it will only help those who registered and if you haven't, it will send a cookie to get your Product ID code and your email address, forward it to its central database (where details about your address, sex, pets, legal troubles, speech clearity, mole density, dandruff frequency... are stored.), tries to match it with other IDs and find out whether its a pirate version or not. So, for those pirates out there, there is only one way to avoid $500,000 fine (or a good spanking from Big Bill), ignore Microsoft, which is probably what you are doing right now.
